Richard Childers founded Childers Associates in 1977. His experience began as a staff appraiser with Georgia Federal Savings Bank, now part of Wells Fargo Bank. He became an Associate Appraiser with the southeastern division of Landauer Associates and has performed appraisal and consulting assignments throughout the United States. He has extensive experience as an expert witness in condemnation, bankruptcy and foreclosure trials. Clients include insurance companies, banks, government agencies, attorneys, corporations and individuals.

Richard received his B.B.A. from the University of Georgia and an M.B.A. with a concentration in Real Estate from Georgia State University. He was awarded the MAI designation in November 1976. Richard is an active participant in several professional and volunteer organizations including the Appraisal Institute, Rotary and Saint Anne’s Episcopal Church. Richard is the past president of the Georgia Chapter of the Appraisal Institute and served a three-year term as a national director for the Appraisal Institute. Richard is past president of Midtown Atlanta Rotary and has served on the Vestry of Saint Anne Church. He is a founding member of the Georgia Appraiser’s Coalition, a group consisting of representatives from all of the recognized appraisal associations in Georgia. The coalition successfully sponsored appraiser licensing and certification legislation in Georgia and maintains an active relationship with the State of Georgia Real Estate Appraiser’s Board.

David W. Childers, MAI

David has been in the appraisal field since 1978, receiving his MAI designation in 1983. David is an approved faculty member of the Appraisal Institute and has taught on a national basis since 1986. He is a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Industrial Engineering degree and he received a Master of Science Engineering Management degree from the University of Alaska in Anchorage.

His appraisal and consulting experiences involve a broad variety of property types from the simple to the complex. David’s specialty is tackling the most complex appraisal assignments including unusual special purpose properties, and properties with complex property rights issues such as air rights, sub-surface rights, easements and complicated leasehold/leased fee valuations.

David resides in the City of Atlanta and is an active member of the Northside United Methodist Church and a member of the Atlanta Downtown Kiwanis Club. He has previously served as President of the Atlanta Area Chapter of the Appraisal Institute and as a National Director of the Appraisal Institute. He received the Legion of Leaders award from the Atlanta Area Chapter of the Appraisal Institute for 2003.

John P. Murray, MAI

John Murray

John Murray is a Practicing Designated Member of the Appraisal Institute and holds the Certified General Real Property Appraiser classification in the State of Georgia. He has been an associate with Childers Associates since May 2002. Prior to his employment with Childers Associates, John earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with an emphasis in real estate from the University of Georgia. He also served as a Southeast Regional Representative for the Appraisal Institute in 2007 and 2008.

John has prepared numerous appraisals for the General Services Administration, the Georgia Department of Transportation, and numerous private sector clients. He has extensive experience valuing complex properties and solving the most difficult appraisal problems in a variety of assignments. John is experienced in appraising office, retail, apartments, land, and a variety of complex, special purpose governmental facilities.

John and his wife, Erin, have called Athens, Georgia their home since the fall of 2002. They are members of Life Church of Athens and are active in the community, working with the Northeast Georgia Food Bank and the Sparrow’s Nest to provide food to underprivileged groups in Athens. John and Erin are in the process of completing an international adoption and spend their free time with friends at UGA sporting events or at home with their three dogs.

Chad Lieske is a Registered Real Estate Appraiser in the State of Georgia. He has been with Childers Associates since 2008. Chad received a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications Arts from Georgia Southern University. He is a Candidate for Membership in the Appraisal Institute and is working toward becoming a Certified General Real Property Appraiser.
